Chalet Rochebrune

Chalet Rochebrune sits on a snowy meadow above the forest in Megève, a large house of pale oak and old timber beams with big windows that frame the trees and the slopes. It's a modern chalet, but a warm one.

There are two living rooms, which matters with a group this size. One is built around a slatted wooden fireplace column, the other has a dark stone hearth, grey sofas and bright yellow armchairs. A dining table for fourteen sits by a double-sided fire, with a second table close to the kitchen, where an island and a red range cooker wait for whoever likes to cook. A TV room and a bar with a red sofa round things off. As a luxury chalet rental in Megève, it's generous without feeling cold.

Chalet Rochebrune sleeps eighteen guests in nine bedrooms, each with a king bed, and nine bathrooms. The main suite sits under the old beams with a round tub and a long stone vanity, and other rooms have fur throws and views over the forest. Children get a bunk room.

Downstairs there's an indoor lap pool lined with timber slats and red daybeds, and a sliding floor can cover it to make an open hall. A gym looks onto the water through glass, and the cinema has deep red sofas. Megève is one of the most charming villages in the French Alps, with a pretty centre and wide, gentle ski slopes. It suits a very large family or two families sharing a ski week.
