Punta Cana isn't really a town. It's a long run of coast at the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic, and the part we know is behind two sets of gates just south of the airport. Puntacana Resort and Club is the older one, with Tortuga Bay, two golf courses and a reef-sheltered beach. Cap Cana, beyond it, is built around a marina. Thirty-one of our villas are in the first, seven in the second, and one is up the coast in Bávaro.

Life in Punta Cana
Calm water inside the reef
A reef runs offshore along much of this coast. You can see it from the beach, a white line where the swell breaks. Inside it the water is often flat, so clear over the sand you can count shells, then turquoise further out. Kids paddle about for hours. Mornings are quietest, before the breeze gets up and the umbrellas go out. Bring reef shoes. Some patches underfoot are rocky.
Golf inside the gates
Puntacana Resort and Club has 45 holes. Corales, Tom Fazio's 18, finishes along the cliffs above the bay, and the Corales Puntacana Championship, a PGA event, is played there. La Cana, by P.B. Dye, has 27 holes, 14 with ocean views. Down in Cap Cana there's Jack Nicklaus's Punta Espada, eight of its holes along the water. Access rules differ by course and change, so ask us before you pack the clubs.
Out from the marina
Cap Cana's marina is where the boats are. Fishing charters head out early, mornings being the calmest time on the water, and come back in the afternoon with whatever was biting. Other people just want a few hours on a catamaran, a swim off the back and a lazy run home along the coast. We don't run the boats ourselves. We can tell you which villas are closest to the marina, though.
Life at the villa
Most days end up revolving around the pool. Many of our villas come with housekeeping. What's included differs from house to house, and the listing for each villa says exactly what you get.
When to go
The dry months, December to April, are also the busy ones. May and early summer are quieter. Hurricane season is 1 June to 30 November, at its peak around 10 September.

What is the difference between Cap Cana and Puntacana Resort and Club?
They're neighbours, both gated, but they feel different. Puntacana Resort and Club, open since 1969, is right by the airport and has Tortuga Bay, the Corales and La Cana courses and a long reef-sheltered beach. Cap Cana is further south and centres on its marina, Juanillo Beach and the Punta Espada course. Thirty-one of our villas are in the resort, seven in Cap Cana.
What is the best time to visit Punta Cana?
For the driest weather, December to April, though that's also high season, and Christmas, New Year and Easter fill early. May to July is more humid, with short afternoon showers and fewer people. Late August to October sits in the busiest part of hurricane season, which runs officially from 1 June to 30 November.
How far are the villas from the airport?
Close. Punta Cana International Airport is right beside Puntacana Resort and Club, and most of our villas there are around 10 minutes away by car. Cap Cana is further south, around 15 to 20 minutes. Tell us your flight times when you enquire and we'll give you a better idea for the villa you choose.
Do the villas come with staff?
Many do, but it varies. Housekeeping is common. We only describe what each villa's own listing says, so check the page for the house you like, or ask us. If staff matter, mention it when you first get in touch and we'll keep to the villas that have them.
How is a stay arranged with The Luxury Rental?
