Villa Atabey

Villa Atabey is a two-story villa inside the gated grounds of Puntacana Resort and Club, in the Arrecife area near the coast. The main facade is white stucco under a terracotta clay tile roof, surrounded on three sides by coconut palms, tropical garden beds, and a cream travertine pool terrace that wraps the full rear of the house. The pool deck is the visual center of the property. A large rectangular pool sits flush with the cream travertine paving, with rattan chaise lounges arranged on both sides under palm shade. At the far end of the deck stands a separate open-air rancho structure with a vaulted wood-beam ceiling. It holds a wicker sectional with white cushions arranged around a black glass coffee table, a bar counter with dark wood stools, a ceiling fan, and a mounted flat-screen television facing the seating area.

The main living room runs wide and formal in the classic Caribbean style. Dark mahogany-framed sofas and armchairs with cream upholstery are arranged in two conversation groups. Orange and gold accent pillows sit on each seat. A large gold-and-black painted canvas of tropical foliage hangs on the rear wall, and a wrought-iron chandelier with amber glass shades lights the center of the room from above. White-louvered windows and French doors run across the garden-facing wall, keeping the space open to the outdoor air.

The primary bedroom has a champagne-toned tufted headboard with an ornate carved wood frame and a crystal candelabra chandelier hanging above. A built-in cream shelving unit with a flat-screen television fills the wall to one side of the bed. A second suite has a vaulted white-painted beam ceiling rising to a high peak, a navy blue upholstered headboard, a capiz shell chandelier at the top of the vault, and a bank of French doors opening to the palm garden. A white leather recliner sofa and cream built-in cabinetry with an entertainment unit complete the room. Additional guest bedrooms have twin configurations with lavender bedding and high vaulted ceilings with large paddle fans, each with a direct-access en-suite bathroom.

The bathrooms carry rose-coral travertine tile on the walls and floor. The primary bath has a round inset Jacuzzi soaking tub set into a stone surround, with a plantation-shutter window above and a painted palm frond canvas on the adjacent wall.
