Villa Améthyste sits low beside the lagoon, close to the shore, with green hills rising behind it. The water out front is calm, and past the reef you can watch the surf break. Sunsets light up the hills behind the lagoon each evening. For a stylish villa in Grand Cul-de-Sac, St Barts sized for a small group, the waterside setting is the main draw.
The design is contemporary and tropical. Wood shingle hip roofs top stone clad walls, and the entrance pavilion opens through tall timber pivot doors. Wide wood decks wrap the house. Inside, the look is warm and layered. White pitched timber ceilings sit above cream stone floors, and rattan pendant lamps hang over the living areas. Tropical botanical wallpaper and striped textiles bring color into the rooms.
The long infinity pool faces the lagoon and the sunset. Wood decks around it hold loungers. An open sided living pavilion with sofas gives you shade by the water, and a seaside garden lounge looks straight out to the surf over the reef. A natural rock garden adds more places to sit.
Three bedrooms sleep up to 6 guests, each with a double bed, and there are three bathrooms. One bedroom opens to a terrace with a sea view, and another looks out over a bay with an islet. The bathrooms have walk in rain showers framed in gold trim.
A reef shelters the Grand Cul-de-Sac lagoon on the north east coast. The shallow, calm water draws kitesurfers and fans of paddle sports, and the beach is easy to enjoy at any age. For a house that splits living space better, Villa Turquoise offers a long infinity pool facing the turquoise lagoon.
