Villa Bryggan

Palm trees grow right out of the deck at Villa Bryggan, rising from planters beside a long, dark tiled infinity pool. At night the pool edges glow, and lights flicker on the water below. The villa occupies a lush hillside above the south west coast, among neighboring villas. Out front, rocky islets and anchored yachts dot the sea. Beyond them lies nothing but open water. This villa in Lurin, St Barts gives a group several places to swim.

The villa is a two story white contemporary Caribbean design. Gray hipped shingle roofs top it, and wide covered terraces sit beneath a balcony level with glass railings. Separate pavilions surround the pool, and a planted green roof terrace grows ornamental grasses.

Inside, white painted rafters cross the vaulted ceilings, and dark wood floors anchor the rooms. Ceiling fans turn overhead. White sofas surround a wood coffee table in the open living room. Cushions in teal and navy add color, with flashes of red. The kitchen is built around a large island with gray wood drawers and white stools, plus a wine fridge and a stainless hood.

Beyond the main infinity pool, a narrow lane style section runs between two decks. A separate small plunge pool sits by one of the wings. Gray hardwood decks hold loungers, and a covered lounge offers white sofas in the shade. Outdoor dining for about 10 sits under cover, facing the sea. On a balcony, Adirondack chairs make a good perch for the view.

All four bedrooms have king beds, and the house sleeps 8. Several rooms feature four poster wood beds, some against dark feature walls, and sliders open onto balconies with sea views. Bathrooms have wood framed vanities with white basins, along with walk in showers. The house is air conditioned throughout and has satellite TV.

Lurin spreads across the hills just behind Gustavia, with sea views from its higher slopes. From there, both Gustavia and the south coast beaches are only minutes by car. Should you want a second option, start with Villa Linnea and an overflow pool that seems to drop into the sea.

With more than one pool and plenty of terraces, eight guests never have to compete for space. Choose this villa in Lurin, St Barts if you like a swim under the stars before bed.
