How far is the château from the city and airport?
That depends on where it sits. As a guide, the wine country around Bordeaux is within around 30 minutes to an hour of the city centre by car, and Bordeaux-Mérignac airport is on the west side of town. The TGV from Paris takes around two hours.
Can we visit the vineyards?
Yes, and you could fill a week with it. Many estates welcome visitors for tastings, often by appointment, across the Médoc, Graves, Saint-Émilion and Entre-Deux-Mers. In the city, the Cité du Vin, a museum of wine in a curved building on the river, is a good place to start. Please choose a driver.
When is the harvest?
Usually from late August or early September into October, depending on the year and the grape. The reds are picked later than the whites. It's a lovely time to be there, with tractors on the lanes and the smell of crushed grapes, but visits can be limited while estates are busy, so check ahead. September is our pick.
