Bonnieux is a classic perched village of the Luberon, in the Vaucluse, its stone houses stacked up a steep hillside to an old church reached by a long flight of steps. From the top the view runs across the valley of the Calavon to Lacoste, Ménerbes and Gordes, with the Roman bridge of Pont Julien in the fields below and the cedar forest on the ridge behind. It is the kind of village people mean when they say Provence: a Friday market, two bakeries, a handful of good restaurants and vineyards on every slope.
Bastide Miquèlo sits in that landscape. Late June to JulyThe lavender is in flower on the plateau above Gordes and around the Abbaye de Sénanque, the markets are at their fullest and the evenings are warm enough to eat outside until midnight. The busiest and most beautiful weeks.
May, June and SeptemberWarm days, quieter roads and villages, and the vineyards either in leaf or in harvest. The best value and, for many, the best weather for walking the ridges and cycling the valley.
