A Mas Among The Olive Groves
Fontvieille is a small Provençal village in the Bouches-du-Rhône, set among olive groves and low limestone hills between Arles and the Alpilles. It is known for the old windmills on the ridge above the village, one of them the mill that gave Alphonse Daudet the title of his Lettres de mon moulin, and for the ruined Roman aqueduct and mills at Barbegal in the fields nearby. Les Baux-de-Provence and its quarry light shows are ten minutes away, Saint-Rémy and the Roman city of Arles fifteen, and the Camargue begins just beyond.
Mas Oliveto is a Provençal farmhouse of the kind the region built for centuries: stone, shutters, a courtyard, olive trees. It has five bedrooms and five bathrooms for up to ten guests, a pool and shaded terraces for the long meals that are the point of a week here. It is our only home in Fontvieille, chosen for its setting as much as its rooms.
