Casa Macu sits in the hills of northern Corsica at a point where the maquis scrubland gives way to a terraced garden and the view opens over the water. The house is built in the traditional way with stone walls and terracotta roof tiles that absorb the afternoon heat and release it slowly into the evening. Inside, the rooms are cool and quiet, with tile floors, solid furniture, and shuttered windows that filter the midday light to a soft, liveable level. We have set it up so that the arrangement works well for a group: shared spaces that are genuinely comfortable for everyone at once, and private areas that are far enough apart to give each person their own morning, and is available to book through The Luxury Rental.

The ground floor has a kitchen that runs along the back wall, fully equipped and opening onto the terrace through a double door. The dining area is inside, with a long table and room for the whole group, though most meals end up happening outside once the weather is settled. A sitting room with bookshelves and a low sofa occupies the other side of the ground floor, good for evenings when the temperature drops enough to want walls around you.

Upstairs, three bedrooms face south over the water, and two face north over the garden and the hillside. The southern rooms have the better view and the morning light; the northern rooms are quieter and stay cooler longer into the day. Each room has its own bathroom. The beds are good, the mattresses firm, and the storage is adequate for the length of stay most guests take.

The terrace wraps around two sides of the house and catches sun at nearly every hour. Stone steps lead down from it to the pool, which is tiled in pale blue and long enough for proper swimming. Beside the pool, there is a shaded area with sun loungers and a small table for drinks. The garden beyond is planted with rosemary, lavender, and the low aromatic species the island grows naturally, and the smell of it on a warm afternoon is one of those details guests tend to mention when they leave.

Corsica gives visitors more than most islands do. The coast has beaches that range from long sandy stretches on the west to small rocky coves in the north that take a short walk to reach. The inland villages are an hour’s drive into the mountains, with markets, restaurants, and a cooler climate in July and August. The nearest port town is twenty minutes by road and has a fish market that runs three mornings a week.
